The Richmond Wrestling Club holds all practices and clinics on the campus of the St. Christopher’s School in the Beirne B. Carter Wrestling Gymnasium inside the Kemper Athletic and Fitness Center. Unlike many facilities across the country, Carter Gym is a wrestling facility year-round, allowing the Richmond Wrestling Club to take advantage of the beautiful room during any season.
The wrestling space features 3 Resilite mats in two spaces - two 45’x45’ mats in the main gymnasium(above right) and a 42’x40’ mat in an attached secondary gymnasium(above left). In all, including border and transition mats, the RWC has access to nearly 7,000 square feet of wrestling space. The secondary gymnasium and main gymnasium can be separated by a rolling garage door, to allow for coaches to separate athletes by size, experience, or a number of other factors - including individual workout sessions, or kept combined which allows nearly 100 athletes to safely practice in unison.
As you arrive on the St. Christopher’s campus, there will be parking (sometimes limited, depending on time of day due to athletics practices) by the baseball/soccer field and parent pick-up loop. Upon entering the Kemper Athletic and Fitness Center, make your way up the stairs located inside the entrance. At the top of the stairs, make a U-Turn toward the elevators to find the main entrance doors to the Beirne B. Carter Wrestling Gym(above center). Coaches ask that all extra equipment, including bags and water bottles, is kept in the hallway during practice time to reduce distraction during instruction.
When Carter Gym is not in use by the Richmond Wrestling Club, it is home to the 17-time VISAA State Champions St. Christopher’s Wrestling Team for both practices and home matches.
